Over the last few years, I have done cool things and visited awesome places.  However, like many people, I always felt limited by one factor in particular.  I have been blessed with well-paying jobs, so that factor wasn’t money for me.  Instead, it was a lack of time that held me back.  I found myself staring at the calendar day after day and planning ahead months in advance to ensure I had enough leave saved up for whatever adventure I was planning.  My job was more generous with time off than many others, but I still always felt limited.  There are so many people and places to visit in this world, and life is short!

After a lot of thought and research, I have decided that the best way for me personally to maximize my time and live life like retirement now is to live full time in an RV.  I know, I know – it might sound a little crazy.  But, there are actually a lot of people who live the full-time RV life.  And they aren’t all retired, either.  This type of lifestyle is becoming more and more popular with all ages.  Here are some of my top reasons for pursuing the RV lifestyle.

Full-Time RV Life could be awesome in a Winnebago Brave

Quality Experiences with Friends and Family

My number one reason is also one of the most important factors in my life: family and friends.  Because I haven’t lived near my family since graduating from college, every year I am torn between spending time visiting them and traveling to new places.  Usually, I try to do both, but that then doesn’t leave much time for friends and other interests.  I also have friends and family spread all around the country (and the world), which makes seeing them even more difficult.  Living a full-time RV life will allow me to travel around the country and spend time with many different people.  I even hope to catch up with friends and family that I haven’t seen in many years!

Exploring the Country

When I was young, my parents did a great job of filling my life with a variety of experiences.  Although I grew up in small-town Alaska, we traveled extensively in the lower 48 (as Alaskans tend to call it).  We did some very cool road trips and saw many of the famous attractions around the nation.  I am so thankful for those adventures, but there is still so much more I want to do!  Visiting a location as a child or teenager is also much different than visiting as an adult.  I hope to revisit many of the places I enjoyed as a child, and experience them again from a whole new perspective.  Traveling while living the full-time RV life will lend me so many more opportunities for this than short trips out from my current home base in Colorado.

Freedom

In my mind, full-time RV life equals freedom.  Although I know there will be struggles, it will give me the opportunity to travel whenever and wherever I want.  I will no longer have to choose one location to live and then be unable to easily go other places for extended periods of time.  I also won’t have to spend all of my time traveling around the country at a rapid pace.  Instead, maybe I want to spend the entire summer with family and friends in Alaska.  Or, maybe I want to spend the winter by a beach!  RV life will give me the freedom to choose, which is exactly the kind of freedom I have been craving.

Adventuring with my Cat (and Future Pets)

I absolutely love having pets.  I also absolutely love traveling as much as possible.  Unfortunately, these two things sometimes conflict with each other.  I often find myself torn when getting ready for a trip because although I love the opportunities that I am about to embark on, I am also sad to be leaving my pet behind for a significant amount of time.  One of the best features of travel in an RV is that it allows the opportunity for pets to tag along on all the adventures!  No longer do they need to sit at home wondering if their owner will ever return.  Instead, they can be on the front lines of the trip!

Obviously, this is a pretty short list and just hits some of the major factors.  Overall, I think living full-time in an RV will be a grand adventure, and one that I can’t wait to begin.  Although I am still working towards this goal, I am excited and hopeful for the future!  If you have struggled with some of these same issues, I would recommend checking out the full-time RV lifestyle.  If you want to know more about my goal to live life like retirement now, check out my  About page.
